Tazewell County did not begin recording births until 1878.
However, The Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society has a list of
delayed birth certificates issued in the county. Some of these are for births prior
to 1878.
1878 - 1915
Recording of births was not compulsory until January 1,
1916. The Tazewell County Clerk's office estimates only about 10% of the births prior to
1916 were actually registered.
Only the Tazewell County Clerk recorded birth records prior
to 1916. However, Tazewell County has placed copies of the 1878-1915 birth records into
the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) system.
The Tazewell County Clerk charges $5.00 for a document
search - whether a record is found or not.
If the document is found, an uncertified
copy can be issued at no further cost.
If a certified copy is desired, the fee will increase
to $14.00 for the first copy and $11 for each

IRAD does not charge to access these records. However, you

1916 - Present
Beginning in 1916 the Tazewell County Clerk and the Illinois
Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records jointly recorded birth records.
Copies of these records are not kept in the IRAD system.
The Tazewell County Clerk charges $5.00 for a document
search - whether a record is found or not.
After 1916, only certified copies are available.
So, if the record is found, the fee increases to $14.00 for

The Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital
Records charges $15.00 for a copy of the original birth record. An abstracted copy is
