Tazewell County Clerk's Office
All Tazewell County vital records including birth and death records since 1878 and marriage records since 1827 are recorded at the county clerk's office.

For recent birth records only the subject or the subject's mother or father can obtain the record. There's a special form for obtaining a deceased person's birth certificate (may require proof of death). Genealogists may access any record at least 75 years old without restriction.
The clerk's office must stamp "For Genealogical Purposes Only" on any copies given.
The law requires that when requesting birth records that the clerk's office receive identification from the person requesting the copies.

Latest prices are available on the forms available for download at the Tazewell County Clerk Vital Records site. Note that you must send a copy of your driver's license or two other forms of identification (see the appropriate form for details).
All checks or money orders should be made payable to "Tazewell County Clerk". Credit cards are only accepted when ordering online (additional convenience fee will apply).
Written requests should fill out and mail the downloadable form available on the Tazewell County Clerk Vital Records site.
The clerk's office tries to answer mailed requests the same day - at most the next day.
Requests by telephone and email are not currently supported.
Especially on birth records, stress you want a copy of the original record - otherwise, you'll probably get an extract generated from a computer database.
Onsite Research:
Although the County Clerk's office is not set up for onsite research, the public can access the indexes prior to 1916. You will not have direct access to any records after 1916.
Request forms are available for each type of record. Assuming you only have one or two requests, you will receive your record(s) within a few minutes.
The staff is friendly but will be focused on their normal work, which includes getting you your paid requests, but can't be expected to spend time helping you research.
