Our Mission

"The Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, educational research institution whose mission is to stimulate interest, to collect, preserve, and safeguard records, and to provide related educational services for the purpose of increasing and enriching public knowledge of our heritage."

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society is:

1. To seek, preserve, and make available pertinent data for the use of individuals, families, and groups interested in tracing persons, incidents, and events in history as they took place, especially in Tazewell County.
2. To inform people of the value of and need for the preservation of family and local history.
3. To encourage the preservation of public and private records of educational, patriotic, historical, and individual personal significance, and to promote publication of related materials for public use.
4. To receive, hold, and invest moneys, dues, gifts, sales receipts, interest, etc., and to hold and administer property for the benefit of the Society and its educational purposes as provided in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
