| First Legal Document - Book
1, Page 1 - Tazewell County was organized in 1827. The following document
was recorded on 6 July 1827 by the first Tazewell County Recorder, Isaac Perkins. It
documented the 1824 Commissioners Court's authorization to allow John J. Bogardus to
operate a ferry across the Illinois River opposite the Town of Peoria, including the
prices he could charge. Note that the court originally considered the matter in
March & December 1824 (when the ferry's location was still part of Sangamon County).
Our thanks to Robert Lutz, current Tazewell County Recorder, for supplying us with
a copy of the document. |
