Note: All prices quoted below were correct on 1 May 2018 but are subject to change.

Tazewell County did not begin recording births until 1878.   However, The Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society has a list of delayed birth certificates issued in the county.  Some of these are for births prior to 1878.

1878 - 1915

Recording of births was not compulsory until January 1, 1916. The Tazewell County Clerk's office estimates only about 10% of the births prior to 1916 were actually registered.

Only the Tazewell County Clerk recorded birth records prior to 1916. However, Tazewell County has placed copies of the 1878-1915 birth records into the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) system.

The Tazewell County Clerk charges $5.00 for a document search - whether a record is found or not.

If the document is found, an uncertified copy can be issued at no further cost.

If a certified copy is desired, the fee will increase to $16 for the first copy and $11 for each additional copy.  Check out  how to order a certificate search from the Tazewell County Clerk's office for the latest prices.

IRAD does not charge to access these records. However, you may be charged for minor photocopy fees.  Here's how to make a request from IRAD.

1916 - Present

Beginning in 1916 the Tazewell County Clerk and the Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records jointly recorded birth records. Copies of these records are not kept in the IRAD system.

The Tazewell County Clerk charges $5.00 for a document search - whether a record is found or not.

After 1916, only certified copies are available.  So, if the record is found, the fee increases to $16 for the first copy and $11 for each additional copy.  Check out  how to order a certificate search from the Tazewell County Clerk's office for the latest prices.

The Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records charges $15.00 for a copy of the original birth record ($2 for each extra copy). An abstracted copy is available for $10.00 ($2 for each extra copy). Here's how to order a record from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
