Henry H. ("H.H.") Cole
Pioneer Photographer

H.H. Cole first established his
photography business in Pekin in 1879.

He became a recognized artist and
the originator of the
Historical Picture Gallery
of notable Tazewell County residents
which is still displayed on the hallway walls of the
Tazewell County Courthouse.

Although Mr. Cole is most remembered
for his many historical photographs of
Tazewell County buildings and
prominent businessmen, farmers, and politicians,
he also took thousands of simple family photos
like the one displayed below.

  The above photo was taken by H.H. Cole circa 1879.
The photo is of Daisie (Daisy) Reed and her sister, Grace Myrtle Reed Correll .
Daisy was born August 3, 1877 in Illinois, and Grace was born abt. 1872-1875.
Their parents were Joseph Reed and Ida Viola Cheever.

The photo of the two sisters was contributed by
Richard & Elizabeth Saunders of California.
(Grace is Richard's grandmother)
